Md. Ibne Siam Joy is a lecturer in Plant Pathology at the School of Agriculture and Rural Development (SARD), Bangladesh Open University (BOU), Gazipur. He embarked on his academic journey with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, where he graduated with top honors in 2016. He furthered his expertise with a Master of Science in Plant Pathology from the same university, achieving a top position in 2020.
Joy’s professional career began as an MS Scholar in a BAS-USDA-funded project from January 2018 to June 2020 at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University. Later he joined as a consultant at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Dhaka, a role he held from August 2020 to April 2024. His contributions included significant work in molecular plant virology, disease forecasting, and integrated disease management. He has been a lecturer at BOU since May 2024. Joy's research interests span molecular plant virology, pesticide risk reduction, bio-control agents, and e-learning.
His scholarly work includes publications on the molecular detection of major potato viruses and the phylogenetic analysis of the Potato Leaf Roll Virus. Joy's excellence in academia has been recognized with several awards, including the National Science and Technology (NST) scholarship (2018-2019) and the Dean's Award for Outstanding Academic Performance (2018). He is also an active member of the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB). Joy’s commitment to agricultural development and plant pathology continues to contribute significantly to his field.
