Dr. Md. Farid Hossain is a distinguished professor in the field of agriculture, currently serving as the Dean of the School of Agriculture and Rural Development at Bangladesh Open University (BOU). He holds a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (1990), a Master of Science in Agronomy (1995), and a PhD (2008). Dr. Hossain has extensive experience in teaching, research, and administration within the academic sector. His professional career began as a Lecturer in Agronomy at Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU), where he subsequently held various academic positions, culminating in his role as an Associate Professor.
In 2013, he joined BOU as a Professor of Agriculture. His administrative roles at BOU include serving as the Dean of SARD since 2015, Chairman of the School Committee, and Editor of the Bangladesh Open University Journal of Agriculture and Rural Development. Dr. Hossain is also a member of several key committees, including the Academic Council, Board of Governors, and Academic Planning Committee, reflecting his significant contributions to the governance and academic framework of BOU.
Dr. Hossain's research interests focus on agronomy, crop production technology, climate change, and agricultural education. He has conducted numerous research projects, including studies on the yield and quality of aromatic rice and the impact of organic fertilizers on crop production. He has authored and co-authored numerous publications in national and international journals, contributing valuable knowledge to the field of agricultural science. His notable publications include research on planting densities, nitrogen performance, and the impact of various agronomic practices on rice yield and quality.
Dr. Hossain's dedication to agricultural education is evident through his involvement in developing teaching materials and conducting educational programs in both formal and non-formal settings. His work in distance learning at BOU has been particularly impactful, helping to educate a broader audience in agricultural practices and innovations. Through his extensive academic, research, and administrative endeavors, Dr. Md. Farid Hossain has made significant contributions to agricultural science and education in Bangladesh.
