Shahina Akter boasts over 15 years of extensive research experience across various esteemed organizations, delving into multifaceted aspects of her field. Her research interests are mainly Urban Planning, Disaster Management and Blue Economy. She is an Associate Professor specializing in Geography and Environment at Bangladesh Open University. She holds an M.Phil. in Urban Planning from the Department of Geography and Environment at the University of Dhaka. Shahina is currently pursuing her Ph.D. as a fellow at Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh. Her academic journey began with an outstanding performance, achieving a First Class First position in her MSc degree in Geography and Environment from Jahangirnagar University. Further enriching her educational qualifications, she obtained a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree obtained first Class from Bangladesh Open University.
Shahina Akter's scholarly contributions extend beyond her academic pursuits. She has authored over eight academic books as a single and joint author about BBA, BBS, Secondary, and Certificate programs published by Bangladesh Open University. She has penned more than 15 urban planning and disaster management research articles. She has contributed to over two book reviews in Geography and Environment. Additionally, she has undertaken several research projects as a consultant for various Ministries of Bangladesh, representing different research organizations. Shahina has spearheaded four independent research projects funded by Bangladesh Open University.
Her dedication to advancing knowledge transcends borders, as evidenced by her active participation and engagements in international conferences. She recently attended (December 2023) COP28 to represent the Blue Economy of Bangladesh. Shahina has participated in over 20 conferences, workshops, and training sessions, both domestically and internationally, focusing on research methodologies, programming, and open and distance learning. With her academic prowess and relentless pursuit of excellence, Shahina Akter continues to make significant contributions to her field locally and globally.
She is also a life member of the Bangladesh National Geographical Association (BNGA) and Bangladesh Geographic Society (BGS).
